As far back as I can remember I have been drawing. I grew up in a catholic home, so a lot of the images that I would try to recreate were religious based. I grew up in a small town in eastern New Mexico where I learned the basics of drawing and painting in my High School Art class. Throughout my high school years I was constantly drawing.
It wasn’t until I moved to Phoenix, AZ that I learned that I had a love for tattooing. I lived with Ray Mendoza, a tattoo artist from Los Angeles. While he tattooed me, he also taught me most of the basics of tattooing.
After moving home to New Mexico in January of 2007, I bought my first set of tattoo machines and took the little knowledge that Ray taught me and dove into tattooing headfirst. I was hooked from the very first tattoo. I spent hours and hours tattooing my friends and family. I tattooed until the sun came up, literally! After getting married in the summer of 2008, we settled down in my hometown, Ft. Sumner NM. I opened my own private studio, Sunnyside Tattoo and started to pursue tattooing as a career.
While living in Ft. Sumner my wife and I would travel to Haiti once a year. After the January 12, 2010 earthquake we were devastated and wanted to do more. We traveled to Haiti more often and fell more and more in love with the country. In Spring of 2011, my wife was offered a job and we loaded up everything we owned and moved to Nashville, TN to start a new venture. In Nashville I was blessed to have been a part of the Safe House Tattoo Studio family. Being a part of this community taught me about brotherhood and grew me as an artist. At Safe House Tattoo I was blessed to have worked under Ian White who taught me more than I could have ever imagined about the art of tattooing and of friendship. We now live in Flagstaff, AZ where I am pursuing my dream of owning a studio to continue providing unique art in the form of tattoos, to the community of Flagstaff.
Most importantly I am married to the woman of my dreams, Misty. We have twin boys Asher and Jonah and two Labradors Haiti and Harlie. 🙂
